Jill Rogers is well known to San Francisco Bay Area audiences as the lead singer of the honky-tonk outfit, Crying Time. She brings the same energy and nuance to her renditions of songs from the American Songbook, with a special focus on tunes associated with Billie Holiday and Chet Baker. Says KPFA’s Derk Richardson: “with her light, subtly shaded timbres, emotional nuance, and natural phrasing, Rogers does justice to the Holiday connection.” Although the material is from another time, her approach to these classics stays absolutely right here, right now, bringing presence and relevance to each of the depression-era songs she sings.

Rogers will be leading a band of Bay Area all-stars, including Lee Bloom (piano), Myles Boisen (guitar), Scott Larson (trombone), Ian Carey (trumpet), Rob Barics (reeds), Safa Shokrai (bass), and Jason Levis (drums). Her two Imperial Jazz Co. releases, Happy as a King (2018) and Cloudy Day Sunny (2020) also featured Greg Sankovich, John Hanes, Phillip Greenlief, Dan Seamans, Tom Hasset, and the recently departed and much missed John Finkbeiner.
