Thursdays 8:15 - 9:45 pm | 04/02 – 05/21 (8 weeks)
Building on the concepts introduced in Intro to Jazz Improvisation, this course is designed for students ready to deepen their understanding of harmony and expand their improvisational vocabulary.
The class focuses on melodic development, guide tones, voice leading, and more nuanced phrasing, with particular attention to ii–V–I progressions and common jazz song forms. Listening and analysis continue to play a central role, helping students connect what they hear in recordings to what they play on their instruments.
In-class work emphasizes structured exercises and guided soloing, giving students practical strategies for improvising with greater clarity, control, and musical intention. This course is ideal for students with some improvisation experience who are ready to take the next step.
